Sleep experts also point to sagging, body impressions, or damaged areas as common signs of a bad bed, because uneven support can create extra pressure on parts of your body while you sleep.

A quick way to think about it is this: your mattress should support your body evenly, not leave one shoulder, hip, or leg taking all the pressure. If you regularly wake up with tingling limbs, or you notice that one part of the mattress feels flatter, softer, or more “dead” than the rest, pay attention. There is a simple hand test to confirm this: press down on the mattress and see whether it springs back. If it does not recover well, that is a bad sign. If the mattress feels tired, flattened, or oddly unsupportive, your body may already be trying to tell you that something is wrong.
