Hedgehogs hibernate for about 128 days a year. While the animal is sleeping, its body temperature drops to 2-3 degrees Celsius, while in normal times the body temperature is 34 degrees. The hedgehog also slows down breathing during hibernation and takes only 8 breaths per minute, while in the active time it is 40-50. After awakening, the hedgehog feels a keen sense of hunger, and at first it is only concerned with getting its own food.
