The catastrophe that occurred on Sunday June 4, 1989 in the Iglinsky district of the Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, 11 km from the city of Asha, Chelyabinsk Region, on the Asha-Ulu-Telyak section. A gas leak occurred on the Siberia-Ural-Volga pipeline section. When 2 oncoming trains passed nearby, an explosion thundered. The power of this explosion was such that in the city the wave beat the glass in houses … The city was 10 km from the scene of the accident! 600 passengers were killed, 181 of whom are children.
