Rahul didn’t move. He kept his distance. Watched carefully from behind the trees. The elephant struck the ground again. Harder this time. The sound echoed through the forest. She stepped forward. Closer to the same spot. And hit it again. Rahul raised his camera slowly. Zoomed in. The soil was already loose. Uneven.
This had been going on for a while. But what caught his attention wasn’t just the digging. It was everything else. She wasn’t eating. Wasn’t looking around. Wasn’t reacting to anything. Not even the sounds of the forest. It was like everything else had disappeared. And only that spot mattered. Rahul adjusted his position slightly. Trying to get a better angle.
That’s when the elephant stopped. Just for a second. Her head lifted. Ears spread wide. Rahul froze. She knew. A low, warning rumble followed. Not loud. But enough. He didn’t need to think twice. Rahul stepped back slowly. Careful not to make a sound.
Because whatever was happening here, getting closer wasn’t an option.
