Rahul hadn’t been back in the village for years. Most of his life now was spent elsewhere, studying wildlife, working in reserves, and documenting animal behavior. Elephants had always been his focus. He had watched them in the wild. Studied how they moved, how they reacted, how they protected their own. And over time, he had seen something change.
They were more restless now. More cautious. Sometimes even unpredictable. Not because they wanted to be, but because their world had been shrinking. Forests cut down. Paths disrupted. Encounters with humans becoming more frequent. And in some cases… More dangerous.
Which is why he came back. Not just to visit. But to spend some time documenting the wildlife around his village; a place he used to explore as a child. It was meant to be simple. A short break. A small project. Nothing unusual. That morning, he had taken his camera and walked into the forest just beyond the village. Just a few hours. A few photos. That was the plan.
But now… That sound from earlier wouldn’t leave his mind. Because if there was one thing Rahul knew, it was that elephants don’t make that kind of noise unless something is horribly wrong.
