5.Back Pain
The fifth sign is one many people notice only after they have tolerated it for too long: back pain. Back pain is a clear sign that your mattress may be at the end of its life, because both your pillow and mattress affect your posture during the night. Regularly waking up with stiffness or aches is a common sign that a mattress needs replacing, while broader sleep research has found that supportive sleep surfaces can influence back comfort and sleep quality.
The key thing to notice is timing. Do you wake up sore, stiff, or tight, then start to feel better once you have been up and moving for a while? That pattern can point to what is happening during the night. A mattress that no longer supports your spine properly may let your body sink too much, twist slightly out of alignment, or create pressure in all the wrong places. Of course, not every backache comes from your bed, and persistent pain deserves proper attention. But if your mornings have become uncomfortable and your mattress is also old, sagging, or generally worn out, the clues may be lining up. Your bed is supposed to help your body recover. A new mattress cannot solve every sleep problem, but when your current one leaves you waking up worse than you went to bed, it may be time to stop blaming your body and start blaming the mattress.
