9. Chignon or false tails

Chignons were known in ancient Greece, where women combed their hair on the back of their head and fixed them with gold or ivory hairpins. This was done in order to visually increase the density of hair and be able to create various hairstyles. The peak of the popularity of chignons came at the beginning of the 14th-mid-18th centuries, however, even today many women still use this trick to create complex multi-layer hairstyles for any events or performances.
