1. Airport on Madeira Island, Portugal
In 1977, after a plane crash that killed 131 people, this airport was recognized as one of the most dangerous in the world. The pilot, who was at the helm of the aircraft, began a landing just 300 meters after the designated point, which caused the plane to collide with the mountain. The runway was increased for 8 years in a row and now its length is 2777 m and most of it is an overpass located on 180 pillars. Their diameter is 3 m, and the height of some of them reaches 50 m. Thanks to this decision, the engineers managed to reduce the risks of landing, and yet the airport remains one of the most dangerous to this day.
