October 31, 2003 a young surfer named Bethany Hamilton set off to conquer the waves in Tunnels Beach, Kauai. Around 7:30 in the morning, a tiger shark attacked the girl and bit her hand. Despite the disaster, the girl was able to find the strength in herself and continue to receive the joys of life, and also continued to surf.
